How to take care of your mattress
Taking proper care of your mattress is essential to ensure its condition, as well as quality sleep. By maintaining your bed, you ensure your mattress is used to its full potential for years to come.
It’s essentially an investment in yourself, as a good night’s sleep doesn’t just depend on finding the right mattress. Once you have the mattress of your choice, awareness of environmental factors and ideal ways to care for a bed are what will lead you to keep your mattress clean, and healthy and provide you with the most restful sleep.
Maintenance tips for your mattress
Mattress protector
Invest in a high-quality mattress protector to protect your bed from spills, stains, and dust mites. Such a layer can significantly extend the life of your mattress by preventing moisture from penetrating the surface.
Change of side
For even decay, rotate and flip your mattress regularly. In the beginning, it is good to do one change every week, then after the first few months reduce to once every 3-6 months.
In case you have purchased a mattress that by design does not need rotation, we advise you to add a topper so that you can apply the above techniques there.
Cleaning
Vacuum your mattress periodically to remove dust, allergens, and residues. If a stain occurs, clean on the spot with warm water or mild detergent and cold water, avoiding excessive moisture. For persistent stains, add baking soda to the water. Immediately afterward, let the mattress dry naturally with the help of air.
Of course, it is ideal to follow the care instructions provided by the manufacturer and ask what cleaners are allowed to be used depending on the materials used in the mattress construction.
Aeration
Let your mattress breathe by removing the bed linen and opening the windows occasionally. This helps reduce odors and prevents moisture from building up inside the mattress. However, don’t forget to aerate your bedroom for at least 10 minutes every day, and to wash your bed linens periodically to prevent a build-up of germs.
Additionally, some more basic information you should know to avoid mattress wear and tear are:
- Limit or ban standing and jumping on the bed.
- Make sure your mattress is correctly supported on a proper base.
- Do not eat on your bed to avoid stains, however, if you do eat it is advisable to change the sheets more frequently, twice a week.
- Do not allow your pets to climb on your bed. They may be our favorite sweet companions but they also invite a whole host of potential germs, bugs, and bacteria into your bed.
By following these maintenance tips, you can maximize the lifespan of your mattress and continue to enjoy a comfortable and supportive sleeping surface for many years to come.
