Taking proper care of your mattress is essential to maintaining its condition and ensuring a good night’s sleep. By taking care of your bed, you ensure that your mattress will serve you well for years to come.
It’s essentially an investment in yourself, since a good night’s sleep doesn’t just depend on finding the right mattress. Once you have the mattress of your choice, being aware of environmental factors and the best ways to care for your bed will help you keep your mattress clean and healthy and ensure you get the most restful sleep.
Tips for Caring for Your Mattress
Mattress protector
Invest in a high-quality mattress protector to protect your bed from spills, stains, and dust mites. This layer can significantly extend the life of your mattress by preventing moisture from penetrating the surface.
Change of sides
To ensure even wear, rotate and flip your mattress regularly. At first, it's a good idea to make one change each week; then, after the first few months, reduce that to once every 3–6 months.
If you have purchased a mattress that, by design, does not need to be rotated, we recommend that you add a mattress topper so that you can apply the above techniques to it.
Cleaning
Vacuum your mattress periodically to remove dust, allergens, and residue. If a stain occurs, clean it immediately with warm water or mild detergent and cold water, taking care not to use too much moisture. For stubborn stains, add baking soda to the water. Immediately afterward, let the mattress air dry naturally.
Of course, it is best to follow the care instructions provided by the manufacturer and ask which cleaners are safe to use, depending on the materials used in the mattress’s construction.

Aeration
Let your mattress breathe by removing the bedding and opening the windows from time to time. This helps reduce odors and prevents moisture from building up inside the mattress. However, don’t forget to air out your bedroom for at least 10 minutes every day, and to wash your bedding periodically to prevent the buildup of germs.
In addition, here is some more basic information you should know to prevent mattress wear and tear:
- Limit or prohibit standing and jumping on the bed.
- Make sure your mattress is properly supported on a suitable base.
- Do not eat in bed to avoid stains; however, if you do eat, it is advisable to change the sheets more frequently—twice a week.
- Don't let your pets climb onto your bed. They may be our favorite sweet companions, but they also bring a whole host of potential germs, bugs, and bacteria into your bed.
By following these maintenance tips, you can maximize the lifespan of your mattress and continue to enjoy a comfortable and supportive sleeping surface for many years to come.
